wtf bsg? So Season 4.0 of Battlstar Galactica comes with Battlestar Galactica: Razor movie as the first disc. Which means they are selling you something you want, but tacking on something you either don't want (admit it, Razor was basically filler) or already have, and making you pay more for it. It's kind of a backhanded "fuck you". I had about 20% off because of my Barnes & Noble Member card, but it's still basically getting another copy of something I already have for free. I suppose I can just sell my old copy of Razor now, but that's not the point. Current Mood: annoyedCurrent Music: Akira Yamaoka - Fukuro (Insert Coin) |

what seems to be the problem, officer? I'm pretty sure a hot policewoman was checking me out earlier. In the "I'd hit it" way, not the "That guy looks suspicious" way. I feel weird, now. (Insert Coin) |

happy new year, grasshopper Drew the picture on the whiteboard on New Year's Eve. At some point, someone else wrote " Happy New Year, Grasshopper" over it. It works, I guess. MM/DD/YYYY So... 2008 is over. Not a bad year. Lots of things have changed in my life, most of them for the better. I still get depressed occasionally, but I do not suffer depression, as I knew it. I look less defeated. I'm standing up straighter and holding my head up more. I'm gaining something approaching what could be called self-confidence. It's a little scary, but I'm getting used to it. I think. I've met some great people in the past year as well. (In addition to those of you who were already close friends; I'm not leaving you out.) People who like who I am. People who make me believe that there just might actually be something of worth in me. And for that, I thank you all. Over the past couple of years, my general mood has been slowly improving. Each New Year's was a little more hopeful. Do I dare to hope for Good Things in my life? I'm still the same cynical person I've always been, but... I think now I may be willing to give this life and this universe the benefit of the doubt. (I realize this is a little more cheesy and sentimental than most of what I write. But I should be allowed to do this once a year.) So... if Yellowstone blows up, or a giant asteroid hits the Earth, or something: Be safe. Be well. Thanks for everything. all we have and need is here / bombs away and everything is clear Hmmm. Haven't updated in a bit. Probably reusing that subject line, but whatever. The Xmas presents I got tended to be fairly robot-centered. robziel got me all of Transformers G1 (the entire original series) on shady bootleg* DVDs, Erin got me a WALL-E tin lunch box with a cute little stuffed robot and a reversible Transformers hat (which will never be reversed, because I only need the Decepticon side), and Marc gave me a flash drive with a bunch of episodes of Macross Frontier on it. After Xmas, I decided to shop around with my gift cards and Xmas moneys. This led to a Day Of Weirdness. Random strangers** kept coming up to me and engaging me in inescapable conversations in which they told me way too much about what was going on in their lives. (You'd think the scowly guy in the black trenchcoat would look like the least-approachable person in the room, but apparently not.) This culminated in me receiving a random free lecture*** on the history and development of the A6M Type Zero carrier fighter. At Toys R Us. After that I went home, because the day was becoming unusually weird, even for me. Saturday night, I went out to a club with some friends, and had some ridiculously overpriced drinks. Sunday, I decided that I'm going to re-read House Of Leaves. So, of course, every bookstore I went to was sold out. I did manage to run into one of the weird people from Friday again, however. Argh. So I spent the rest of Sunday being antisocial and playing wipEoutHD. At least I unlocked some new skins for some of the ships, so it wasn't a complete waste of time (depending on whether or not you view videogames in general as a waste of time). Tonight, I'm gonna try to find the Lucid box that comes with the neat absinthe spoon and the glass, for New Year's. * - I realize it sounds like I'm talking smack about them because they're bootlegs, but I'm really not. If anything, it's better to have them all fit into a single oversized DVD case than have the officially released boxed sets that take up a huge amount of space and cost a lot. It really is the thought that counts. I haven't tried them out yet, but even if the quality isn't perfect (I'm thinking back to the ExoSquad DVDs he picked up) - what do you want from an 80s cartoon, really?** - Okay, honestly, if they had been attractive and female it probably wouldn't have bothered me nearly as much. I'm just saying. But they were neither, so it was just really weird.*** - This was the first of these random conversations that I was actually interested in. I was walking around with a 1:32 scale A6M2 Zero, and a guy with two kids asked me where there were more of the series. We started talking about them, and he revealed that he had done extensive research on the fighter for a simulation he was working on. Apparently the tail number and markings ("V-103") on the toy are based on those used by Saburo Sakai, one of Japan's leading wartime aces. misnomer Trying to think of a better name for my DeadJournal, now that I'm not so depressed about life anymore. The current name, "Another Monster", comes from the Converter / Asche / Morgenstern track "Monster", which was pretty much my theme song during the recent, more depressed, part of my life (there was a remixed version called "Another Monster", which I thought made a better name than just "Monster"). But I don't hate myself anymore, and I no longer feel like I'm totally unattractive and utterly sucky at life. So perhaps a name change is in order. Suggestions are welcome. 1. I'll respond with something random about you. 2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you. 3. I'll pick a flavor of jello to wrestle you in. 4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me. 5. I'll tell you my first memory of you. 6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of. 7. I'll ask you something I've always wondered about you. 8. If you do this you MUST post this on yours. You MUST. It is written! Panzergrau Another shot of my work-in-progress 3D Kübelwagen project. Added halfassed bump-mapped treads to the tires and changed the color to gray (I may not leave it this color, though). Also playing around with making the windows look mirror-tinted in various colors. For some reason. I still have yet to learn how to put a Decepticon symbol on the door, but that is coming. But although he appeared lighthearted and drunk, his easygoing nature concealed a dark streak. When he couldn't save the life of William R.
